They are archetypal principles that operate through nature, the collective consciousness, and our personal lives, psyche, cosmic role, and creative expression.

These universal forces are symbolized through the archetypes of Brahma as the creator, Vishnu as the preserver and sustainer, and Shiva as the transformer and destroyer—clearing space for the new to emerge. It is important to understand that destruction, in this context, is not viewed as negative, but as a necessary process of evolution. Through endings, dissolution, and release, space is created for new beginnings.

Nature constantly reminds us that the forces of creation operate in cycles. The change of seasons, the rhythms of growth and withdrawal in nature, the phases of the Moon, and even our personal life processes—all reflect these cosmic cycles. There is a phase of initial creation and birth of an idea, a phase of maintenance, stability, and growth, and a phase of transformation, and/or destruction, where cycles come to completion so that new ones may begin.

This cyclical principle is also deeply expressed through mythological archetypes of goddesses who embody different aspects of Shakti—the feminine cosmic energy that initiates manifestation. Across various spiritual traditions, we encounter goddesses of creation and fertility, protectors and sustainers of growth, as well as goddesses of war, the underworld, and death—symbolizing the destruction of the old and the creation of space for the new.

The destructive power of Shakti is deeply present in nature and in our collective consciousness, but it has often been suppressed and distorted in patriarchal culture – emerging as the collective “shadow” of the feminine psyche. However, this very transformative energy is what enables regeneration, healing, and evolution. It dismantles what no longer serves in order to give birth to something more authentic and aligned.
